Edo govt raises varsity’s monthly subvention to N250m

The Edo State Government has increased its monthly subvention to the state-owned Edo State University, Iyamoh, in Estako West Local Government Area of the state, from N100 million to N250 million to enhance academic excellence.

The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Victor Adetimirin, disclosed this at the institution’s 7th convocation held in Iyamoh on Saturday, March 28, 2026.

Adetimirin said on assumption of duty, the council requested an increase in the university’s monthly subvention from N100 million to N250 million.

Adetimirin said by October, the monthly subvention was raised to N250 million.

The VC said the increased subvention had restored staff confidence and enhanced the students’ academic performance.

Adetimirin also stated that 850 students graduated from the university, including 693 first-degree holders and 157 postgraduate students.

He said the 7th convocation marked not just the end of an academic journey but reaffirmed the university’s mission to become globally competitive, focused on service, societal impact, and excellence.

He congratulated the graduands, wishing them enduring success and fulfillment.

The visitor to the university, Governor Monday Okpebhole, in his address, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to developing the institution into a world-class university.

Okpebhole, who was represented by his Special Adviser on Policy and Strategy, Prof. Philip Afaha, pledged to provide quality education in line with his SHINE agenda.

He promised to recalibrate the state’s educational system by ensuring that the increased monthly subvention supported optimal performance.
