EFCC arraigns man over N6.85m car fraud

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arraigned Idris Gana Mohammed before the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory in Maitama, Abuja, over an alleged N6.85m fraud.

Mohammed was arraigned on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, by the Abuja Zonal Directorate of the EFCC before Justice A.M. Abdullahi.

He faced a one-count charge of criminal misappropriation and obtaining money by false pretence in connection with the alleged sale of a black Toyota Camry.

The charge alleged that Mohammed, between June 10 and 13, 2026, in Abuja, dishonestly converted ₦6,850,000 paid to him by Ampatech Nigeria Limited for the purchase of the vehicle.

The alleged offence was said to contravene Section 308 of the Penal Code Law of the FCT and punishable under Section 309 of the same law.

Mohammed pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Following his plea, the prosecution counsel, G.G. Gajere, asked the court to allow the trial to commence.

Defence counsel, Ibrahim Jibril, informed the court that he had filed and served the prosecution with a bail application. He also made an oral application for the defendant’s release.

After hearing both parties, Justice Abdullahi adjourned the case until September 24, 2026, for commencement of trial.

The judge also ordered that Mohammed be remanded in the Kuje Correctional Centre pending further proceedings.

The defendant’s arrest followed a petition by Mohammed Ahmed Patigi of Ampatech Nigeria Limited, who alleged that Mohammed collected ₦6.85m meant for the purchase of a black Toyota Camry.

According to the petition, Mohammed neither delivered the vehicle nor refunded the money.
