The operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested five suspected foreign exchange (forex) speculators at Aba in Abia State.
The suspected forex speculators were arrested by the operatives of the Uyo Zonal Command of the EFCC on Friday, May 17, 2024.
EFCC Head of Media and Publicity Dele Oyewale, who disclosed this via a statement issued on Sunday, May 19, said the suspects were apprehended at the Ama-Hausa mosque in Aba, Abia State.
The arrested suspects are Hassan Umaru, Haruna Umar, Badamasi Abdullahi, Auwal Muhammed, and Kasimu Muhammed.
Oyewale revealed that the suspected forex speculators were in possession of different currencies in varied sums when they were arrested.

He added that the suspects were arrested by operatives of the anti-graft agency, following weeks of surveillance and credible intelligence.
According to him, the recovered currencies are N382,000; 23,000 Won (Korean currency); 52 Yuan (Chinese currency); $6,500 Nippon Ginko; 40 notes of Dalawampung piso (Philippines currency); 20 Gambian Dalasis; and 20 Swaziland currency.
The EFCC spokesperson listed other items recovered from the suspects to include seven mobile phones, one power bank, one airpod, and one ATM card.
Oyewale said the suspected forex speculators will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
