EFCC arrests Edo spiritualist over $1,100 sextortion

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested a self-acclaimed spiritualist, Odigie Moses, for allegedly sextorting an Indian woman to the tune of $1,100.

The suspect was arrested in Ekpoma, Edo State, according to a statement issued by the EFCC Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, on Friday.

The commission alleged that Moses misrepresented himself on Zelle as possessing spiritual healing powers before being contacted by the victim, who was seeking spiritual intervention over what she described as life-threatening challenges.

According to the EFCC, the suspect allegedly convinced the woman to undergo a naked spiritual bath, which he secretly recorded without her consent.

The commission said Moses subsequently allegedly threatened to release the video publicly unless the victim paid him money.

EFCC investigations reportedly established that the woman paid $1,100 to the suspect in an attempt to prevent the alleged release of the video.

The commission said the suspect would be charged to court after the conclusion of investigations.
