EFCC arrests Tambuwal over N189bn fraud

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has detained former Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal, over alleged fraudulent cash withdrawals to the tune of N189 billion.

It was gathered that Tambuwal, a senator representing Sokoto South, was detained after arriving at the EFCC headquarters in Abuja at about 11:30 a.m. on Monday, August 11, 2025.

The former Speaker of the House of Representatives is currently being quizzed by the anti-graft agency in Abuja.

The cash withdrawals were said to be in violation of the Money Laundering (Prevention & Prohibition) Act, 2022.

EFCC’s spokesman Dele Oyewale has yet to speak on the latest development as of press time.

Tambuwal served as the governor of Sokoto State from 2015 to 2023.

He was the Speaker of the House of Representatives between 2011 and 2015.
