The Maiduguri Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested three individuals for allegedly mutilating the Nigerian currency.
The suspects, identified as Adam Muhammad, Muhammad Muhammad, and Bashir Musa, were apprehended after a viral video surfaced on social media showing them using a ₦500 note to clean nasal mucus.
According to the EFCC, the video prompted an investigation that led to the trio being traced and arrested within the Maiduguri metropolis.
They are currently in custody at the EFCC detention facility as investigations continue. The Commission stated that the suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
