The Ikeja Electric Distribution Company (IKEDC) has reassured customers that its ongoing data update exercise introduced in compliance with the Nigeria Tax Act (NTA) 2025 will not affect residential customers, stressing that the requirement is strictly for corporate clients, vendors, and strategic business partners.
The electricity distribution company gave the assurance in a public notice issued on Thursday to clarify misconceptions arising from an earlier announcement on customer data updates.
The DisCo had, in a public notice on Wednesday, directed customers to provide identification details to ensure seamless electricity billing on or before February 20, 2026, in line with the Nigeria Tax Act.
Ikeja Electric warned that customers who fail to submit the required details may be unable to receive electricity bills, adding that this could result in service suspension after the deadline.
However, Ikeja Electric, in a notice on Thursday, said only corporate customers are expected to provide the requested information, adding that the exercise is aimed at meeting regulatory obligations under the NTA 2025 and supporting its internal risk management procedures, including Know-Your-Customer (KYC) and Know-Your-Corporate-Business (KYCB) processes.
It stated: “We refer to our earlier notice on Customer Data Update in Compliance with the Nigeria Tax Act 2025 and wish to provide clarification in response to the genuine concerns received.

“Please note that the notice applies strictly to corporate customers (B2B), as well as our vendors and strategic business partners.
“This initiative is driven by compliance requirements under the Nigeria Tax Act (NTA) 2025 and related regulations, and also supports our internal KYC/KYCB risk management processes.
“Under the NTA 2025, supplier invoices (including those issued by Ikeja Electric) are required to carry prescribed details, including Ikeja Electric’s Tax ID and CAC Registration Number.
“In addition, the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) implementation framework requires that invoices be uploaded and validated on the NRS portal.
“Where such validated invoices are transmitted to corporate customers through the portal, the customer’s Tax ID becomes a mandatory field for processing and verification.”
The company assured all affected customers that the data update and validation process would be seamless and would not disrupt service delivery.
“Once again, this requirement applies to corporate customers only,” the DisCo stressed.
