The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has detained the Director General of Voice of Nigeria (VON), Osita Okechukwu, over N1.3 billion contract fraud.
As at 10:30p.m. on Saturday when The Star spoke with sources at the anti-graft agency, the chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was still in custody.
It was learnt that the VON DG arrived EFCC headquarters in Abuja at about 1.30p.m. to honour its invitation.
On arrival, he was quizzed by operatives over N1.3 billion contract issue, a source said.
Another source said that Okechukwu was detained over an alleged case of conspiracy, abuse of office and misappropriation of public funds to the tune of N1.3 billion.
“He is with us,” EFCC’s spokesperson, Mr. Wilson Uwujaren, told The Star.
Uwujaren declined further comment.
