EFCC drags Miyetti Allah President to court over $2.53m fraud

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has filed a 12-count charge against Bello Abdullahi Bodejo over alleged terrorism financing and money laundering involving $2.53 million.

The charges were filed before the Federal High Court in Abuja on June 22, 2026, with Bodejo expected to be arraigned in the coming days.

According to the anti-graft agency, Bodejo is accused of receiving and possessing large sums of cash in foreign currency suspected to be proceeds of unlawful activities, in violation of provisions of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act, 2011, and the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022.

The EFCC alleged that between January 2022 and March 2024, Bodejo received multiple cash payments in United States dollars from a former Accountant-General of Bauchi State, Sa’idu Abubakar, without routing the transactions through any financial institution as required by law.

One of the counts alleges that Bodejo received $100,000 in cash on January 11, 2022, while another accuses him of accepting $200,000 on January 21, 2022.

The commission also alleged that he received $500,000 on March 20, 2024, and $980,000 on February 7, 2024.

The EFCC said the transactions exceeded the statutory cash transaction threshold and were carried out in contravention of anti-money laundering laws.

In one of the charges, the commission further alleged that Bodejo knowingly took possession of $980,000 under circumstances suggesting that the funds were proceeds of unlawful activities.

The anti-graft agency said the offences are punishable under various provisions of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act, 2011, as amended, and the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022.

Bodejo is expected to enter his plea when he is formally arraigned before the court. Further proceedings are expected after the court fixes a date for the hearing of the case.
