Governor Kayode Fayemi’s Senior Special Assistant on Electoral Matters, Mr. Olaiya Kupolati, has defected to the opposition Social Democratic Party (SDP).
Kupolati, in a letter addressed to the Secretary to the Ekiti State Government and dated 23rd March, resigned from the government to contest for a legislative seat in 2023 elections.
His resignation was based on the reality that he might not get the ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to contest for the House of Assembly seat.
The letter reads: “I, Kupolati Olaiya, the Senior Special Assistant on Electoral Matters, hereby resigns my position with effect from 30th March, 2022.
“I really appreciate Mr Governor for giving me the opportunity to serve the good people of Ekiti State.”
The politician also announced his defection on Wednesday at his ward in Iye Ekiti, Ilejemeje Council Area.
Kupolati is supporting the candidature of the former Governor Segun Oni for the June 18 governorship election.
