Election materials: PDP, Atiku withdraw application against INEC

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, have withdrawn an application filed to compel the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to allow their representatives to inspect the materials used for February 25, 2023, presidential election.

The Court of Appeal had granted the request of Atiku and the PDP to be granted access to the materials used for the just concluded presidential election.

The PDP and Atiku, who are separately challenging the outcome of the just concluded election, told the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal sitting at the Court of Appeal in Abuja on Wednesday that they have withdrawn the application.

When the motion ex-parte, marked: CA/PEC/10M/2023, was called up for hearing on Wednesday, Atiku, through his team of lawyers led by Joe Kyari Gadzama, SAN, told the court that he has filed a notice of discontinuance.

The three-member panel led by Justice Joseph Ikyegh, therefore, struck out the application.

Speaking on the development, Atiku’s Media Adviser, Paul Ibe, said the withdrawal of the application was over an outcome of a meeting the PDP legal team held with INEC leaders in Abuja on Tuesday.

Ibe stated that the two motions were withdrawn after PDP and Atiku were granted access to the election materials by INEC on Tuesday.
