Enugu govt suspends another monarch over misconduct

The Enugu State Government has suspended the traditional ruler of Ibagwa Opi Ogbozalla Autonomous Community in Nsukka Local Government Area, Williams Ezugwu, over alleged misconduct.

The Enugu State Commissioner for Chieftaincy Affairs, Dr Charles Egumgbe, disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday by the Public Relations Officer of the ministry, Emeka Nebeife.

The state government had in July  suspended three traditional rulers and four President-Generals in Ezeagu Local Government Area over alleged misconduct bordering on security infractions.

The commissioner blamed Ezugwu’s suspension on the alleged “persistent conducts that are  inconsistent with some sections of the Traditional Rulers Law of Enugu State”.

Egumgbe said the suspension was with immediate effect, adding that the accusations levelled against the monarch included his failure to subscribe to the community’s Code of Conduct.

The traditional ruler was also alleged to have refused to constitute a cabinet to help in running the affairs of the community since its creation.

He was further said to have failed to set up a town union executive, thereby running the community singlehanded.

The commissioner added that the traditional ruler’s actions were capable of plunging the community into a crisis, hence his suspension.
