Trent Alexander-Arnold cancelled out Erling Haaland’s opener late in the game to earn Liverpool a 1-1 draw with Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.
Haaland’s 27th-minute strike, his 50th Premier League goal, had put City in control of the game and the defending champions had chances to secure a 24th win from 24 home games in all competitions but were left stunned by Alexander-Arnold’s late equaliser.
The draw was enough to keep Pep Guardiola’s team at the top of the Premier League table upon the final whistle, one point ahead of Liverpool.
Haaland’s 50th Premier League goal in his 48th appearance smashed the previous record for the quickest half-century held by Andy Cole in 65 matches.
Speaking after the game, Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp, said: “Preparing for the most difficult game of the season with one (training) session is really a challenge.

“We’re still in a process. If we’d played really well today, we could have won – we didn’t. We played ok.”
On his part, Guardiola lauded the manner in which his side restricted a free-scoring Liverpool to precious few chances.
He said: “I am really proud that after eight years we are still playing that way. We were really good in all departments and needed to be against an incredible team.
“Maybe we missed the last pass a little bit but they defended really well.”
