EPL: Arsenal strike late to stun Newcastle, go second

Arsenal produced a dramatic late comeback to beat Newcastle 2-1 in a thrilling Premier League clash on Sunday.

The visitors looked set for victory after Woltemade’s first-half strike gave Newcastle a deserved lead heading into the break.

The Magpies defended resolutely for much of the second half, frustrating Mikel Arteta’s men and threatening to claim all three points at St James’ Park.

But Arsenal found a way back into the game late on. Mikel Merino levelled the score in the 84th minute with a well-placed effort, sparking a frantic finale.

Deep into stoppage time, Gabriel Magalhaes rose highest from a corner to power home a header and seal a crucial win for the Gunners.

The victory lifts Arsenal up to second place in the table as they continue their push for the Premier League title.

Ollie Watkins also ended his barren spell in front of goal as Aston Villa came from behind to beat Fulham 3-1 for their first Premier League win of the season on Sunday.
