EPL fixtures: Arsenal host Man United as Newcastle face Aston Villa

Arsenal will welcome long-time rivals Manchester United to the Emirates Stadium this weekend in one of the headline fixtures of the Premier League, as the Gunners push to maintain their lead in the title race.

Arsenal are chasing a fifth consecutive home league victory, despite being held to goalless draws in their last two matches against Liverpool and Nottingham Forest.

Fortunately for the Gunners, closest challengers Manchester City and Aston Villa also failed to capitalise on those dropped points.

On paper, the Gunners appear favourites against United, but the hosts are expected to be cautious of a possible resurgence under interim boss Michael Carrick.

The Red Devils looked revitalised last week, claiming a 2-0 victory over Manchester City in Carrick’s first match of his second spell in temporary charge, with an energetic and attacking display.

Fifth-placed Red Devils have struggled for consistency this season – apart from a three-game winning run in October, they have failed to win consecutive games in the league.

Whike United’s attacking numbers have been impressive since manager Ruben Amorim was sacked earlier this month, Arsenal have not conceded a single shot on target in their past two league matches.

The rivalry between the two clubs defined the early years of the Premier League but Arsenal have not been champions since 2004 and United’s era of dominance is a fading memory.

The Gunners are red-hot favourites to win a long-awaited 14th English title but United would love to put a spanner in the works.

Below are the Premier League fixtures scheduled for the weekend:

Burnley v Tottenham

Fulham v Brighton

Manchester City v Wolves
