Ethiopian athlete, Ulfata Deresa, on Saturday emerged winner of the 2022 Lagos City Marathon sponsored by Access Bank.

Deresa became the winner of the competition after running the 42km race in two hours 11 minutes and 54 seconds ahead of 2020 champion, David Barmasai from Kenya, who emerged the Ist runner-up.

Another Kenyan, Emmanuel Nabei, emerged third running the race in two hours 14 minutes and 37 seconds.

Deresa claimed $30,000 as the winner of the marathon, while Barmasai and Nabei got $20,000 and 15,000 respectively.

Similarly, another Ethiopian, Dagne Siranesh, emerged the winner in the female category of the 2022 Lagos City Marathon.

Siranesh won the 42km in two hours 33 minutes and 54 seconds ahead of Alemensh Herpha Guta of Ethiopia, who emerged the 1st runner-up with the time of two hours 35 minutes and 34 seconds, while Naomi Maiyo from Kenya emerged the 2nd runner-up running the race in two hours 35 minutes and 44 seconds.

Siranesh went away with $30,000, while the 1st and 2nd runners-up for the female category were rewarded with $20,000 and $15,000 respectively.

The Lagos City Marathon, which was declared open by the state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, commenced at the National Stadium in Surulere and went all the way to the Eko Atlantic City along the Ahmadu Bello Way, Victoria Island.

The race for the 10km runners, however, started from Lekki Phase I with Eko Atlantic City as the finishing spot.
