Ex-Lagos councillor nabbed with 40kg cannabis

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a former councillor in Lagos State, Sheleru Sadiq Olalekan, over alleged involvement in illicit drug trafficking.

The 45-year-old, who previously served two terms as a councillor in Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area, was apprehended on March 2, 2026, at his residence in Ilado, Ibeju-Lekki, following credible intelligence linking him to drug sales.

NDLEA operatives conducted a search of his home and recovered 40 kilograms of skunk, a strain of cannabis, from one of the rooms.

Olalekan, who currently works as a legislative aide, reportedly admitted ownership of the drugs and the property where they were found. He also confirmed that he had represented the Orimedu community during his tenure as councillor at the Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Council.

The arrest forms part of ongoing efforts by the NDLEA to combat drug trafficking across the country.
