Ex-minister Timipre Sylva emerges Bayelsa APC guber candidate

The immediate past Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva, has been declared winner of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primaries in Bayelsa State.

The result of the primaries, which was held on Friday, April 14, was announced at the APC secretariat in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital, by the Chairman of the election committee, Maj. Gen. A T. Jibrin (Retd), on Saturday.

Jibrin said Sylva polled 52,061 votes to defeat five other contestants.

He said Joshua Machiver got 2,078 votes, Festus Danumiebi garnered 557 votes, Prof. Maureen Etebu scored 1,277 votes, David Lyon got 1,584 votes, while Isikima Johnson scored 584 votes.

The committee chairman thanked all stakeholders in the state for the peaceful conduct of the governorship primary election.

In his acceptance speech, Sylva solicited the support of other contestants in order to secure victory for the APC in the governorship election slated for November 11, 2023.

The former minister, who was represented by a member of the House of Representatives, Sunny Goli, said: “Lets us work together as a family to win the Bayelsa governorship election on November 11, 2023.
