A former member of the House of Representatives, Cairo Ojuogboh, has been confirmed dead.
It was gathered that Ojuogboh, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State, died after slumping on Wednesday night.
He was said to have slumped while watching the semi-final clash between the Super Eagles of Nigeria and the Bafana Bafana of South Africa in the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cote d’Ivoire on Wednesday.
He represented Ika Federal Constituency of Delta State in the House of Representatives.
Speaking on the former lawmaker’s demise on Thursday morning, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 election, Atiku Abubakar, described Ojuogboh as a shining example of patriotism.

Atiku, in a post on his X account, said: “The sudden passing of my close friend, Dr. Cairo Ojougboh, deeply saddens me.
“His love for our country was profound. Cairo was a shining example of patriotism; his dedication to Nigeria was unwavering, and his departure is a personal loss that leaves a void in my heart.
“As we mourn, let us remember the passion and zeal for Nigeria that defined his life. May his soul rest in perfect peace.”
Ojuogboh was a member of the House of Representatives from 2003 to 2007.
He was also a former Executive Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).
