Explosion rocks Kebbi hospital

An early morning explosion on Tuesday shook the General Hospital in Bagudo, Kebbi State, sparking panic among residents and hospital staff.

The blast reportedly damaged part of the hospital’s staff quarters, the Kebbi State Police Command confirmed. SP Bashir Usman, the police spokesperson, said security personnel responded immediately, and no casualties were reported.

In a statement, Usman said the area was secured to prevent further threats, with a joint team of police, military, and vigilante operatives cordoning off the scene.

“The Kebbi State Police Command wishes to assure the public that we have full control of the security situation following the explosion at the General Hospital, Bagudo,” he said.

Specialists from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal–Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) unit have been deployed to assess the site as part of an ongoing investigation.

Usman added that while a building within the staff quarters sustained damage, its occupants had evacuated safely.

The state Commissioner of Police has ordered additional tactical deployments to maintain order and reassure the community.

Authorities have launched a full-scale investigation to determine the cause of the explosion and have warned residents to avoid the immediate vicinity of the hospital to ensure their safety and prevent interference with security operations.
