Akume’s wife urges SGF to reaffirm Christian faith

Mrs. Regina Akume, member of the House of Representatives for Gboko/Tarka Federal Constituency, has publicly appealed to her husband, Senator George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), to recommit to his Christian faith.

Her remarks, made during celebrations held in Makurdi, Benue State, also coincided with the SGF’s 72nd birthday and a family wedding.

Addressing guests at the wedding reception on Sunday, Mrs. Akume prayed for her husband’s long life, good health, and clarity of mind. She urged him “to come back to Christianity,” stressing that his rise to prominence and achievements were rooted in his Christian beliefs.

“We came all the way to the office of SGF not through enemies but through Jesus Christ.

“And Jesus Christ is still alive and still working for us,” she said, as captured in a video circulating on social media.

Her comments come amid widespread discussions following reports that Senator Akume has married another wife, identified as Zaynab Ngohemba-George Akume Dajoh, formerly married to the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi.

The union has drawn significant attention online, though the SGF’s spokesperson clarified that the marriage is not a recent development and has existed for over a year.

The heartfelt appeal by Mrs. Akume has sparked public debate, with many weighing in on issues of faith, family, and leadership as Nigeria approaches the 2027 electoral cycle.
