Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), Abubakar Malami (SAN) has denied media reports that his office had exonerated embattled Deputy Commissioner of Police Abba Kyari.
Malami, who spoke through his spokesman, Dr. Umar Jibrilu Gwandu, stated that he only requested for further probe of some aspects of the investigation.
“It was a case of work in progress in respect of which the office of the Attorney General of the federation requested for further probe in relation to some aspects of investigation,” Gwandu said.
According to him, it was clear that the conclusion on the alleged contradiction on the issue was a clear case of misconception.
“The office of the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice’s stance is that no conclusion has been reached in the direction of absence of evidence relating to the first report.
“The issues were raised for further investigation with a view to cover the field in investigation in order to arrived at informed decision,” he said.
Court fixes March 23 to hear FG’s request to extradite Abba Kyari
Kyari faces extradition over alleged connection with $1.1 million scam perpetrated by Hushpuppi.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) of the United States had requested for Kyari’s extradition so that he can face trial in the U.S.
The suspended police officer is currently facing trial over alleged involvement in 25kg of cocaine.
