The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has appealed to motorists and airport users to remain patient and cooperative following the commencement of its Go Cashless Programme at the access gates of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) and the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA).
FAAN made the appeal in a statement issued on Monday, March 2, 2026.
The Authority acknowledged the traffic congestion experienced at the airport access gates on the first day of the full rollout of the cashless system, and expressed sympathy with motorists affected by the delays.
It said the gridlock was largely caused by a high number of drivers who chose to register for their Go Cashless cards at the gates, despite earlier public notices and repeated announcements encouraging early registration.
While noting that some adjustment challenges were expected during the transition, FAAN appealed for public understanding, stressing that the current difficulties are temporary.
FAAN said: “We appeal for your patience, understanding, and cooperation as we work diligently to stabilise and streamline the process.

“This transition is designed to deliver long-term benefits — faster processing, improved transparency, reduced cash handling risks, and a more efficient airport environment for all.
“We therefore urge all motorists who are yet to obtain their Go Cashless cards to take advantage of the expanded registration support being provided and to plan ahead for subsequent visits.”
To ease the situation and support motorists, the Authority said it has deployed additional personnel at the access gates, increased the number of registration points for first-time users and strengthened on-ground coordination to improve traffic flow.
