Despite the warnings of the Nigerian Police Force to stop all manners of protests in memory of the #EndSARS rally in 2020, some Nigerians and activists have taken to the streets in Lagos and Abuja on Wednesday to stage protests.
The protesters appeared to have outwitted the security agencies which took positions from the early hours of Wednesday as they moved in a convoy of vehicles while holding Nigerian flags.
Among those who have shown up for the protests in Lagos include singer, Falz, Yemi Adamolekun, who is the Executive Director, Enough is Enough.
In Abuja, human rights activist, Deji Adeyanju, and others had shown up at the Unity Fountain for the rally.
Meanwhile, a group of pro-Buhari protesters stormed the Unity Fountain in Abuja, insisting “nobody died at Lekki tollgate” in Lagos during the ENDSARS protest in 2020.
The protesters who were conveyed to the venue in a bus, held up placards stating, “#EndSarsProtest; Lekki shooting was a hoax”, and “Nobody died at Lekki tollgate”.
On October 20, 2020, soldiers reportedly opened fire on protesters campaigning against police brutality at Lekki tollgate.
Already, some youths and activists are currently conducting memorial protests across the country including Abuja to mark the first anniversary of the #EndSARS protest.
Minister of Information, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, on Wednesday described the Lekki incident as a “phantom massacre”.
