Family feud at wedding claims one life in Yobe

A family dispute that erupted during a wedding ceremony in Kayari village, Fune Local Government Area of Yobe State, has resulted in the death of one person, with several others sustaining injuries.

The incident occurred at about 6:30 p.m. on January 13 at the residence of Wakili Sumaye, where a fight broke out between members of the Manu and Ibrahim families.

During the confrontation, those involved allegedly attacked one another with cutlasses, inflicting serious injuries.

Four victims—Abdullahi Manu (30), Adamu Manu (27), Ilyasu Manu (30), and Mohammadu Ibrahim (20)—all males from the same address, were taken to the Damagum Divisional Police Headquarters before being rushed to the General Hospital in Damagum for treatment.

However, Abdullahi Manu was pronounced dead on arrival by the attending medical doctor, while the other victims are currently receiving medical care.

The Yobe State Police Command confirmed the incident and said investigations had begun, adding that efforts were underway to arrest suspects who fled the scene.

Police authorities have urged residents to settle disputes peacefully and refrain from the use of weapons, warning that such actions often lead to unnecessary loss of lives.
