Father, son die in Jigawa building collapse

A 30-year-old man and his two-year-old son have been confirmed dead in a building collapse in Madabe village, Buji Local Government Area of Jigawa State.

The spokesperson for the local government, Ali Safiyanu, confirmed the incident on Monday, August 12, 2024.

Safiyanu disclosed that the 25-year-old mother of the boy survived the incident, adding that she is responding to treatment at an undisclosed hospital.

He explained that the building collapsed during a downpour on Sunday night.

The incident was also confirmed by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) spokesman in Jigawa State, Badaruddeen Tijjani.

Tijani said an investigation into the building collapse had commenced.

Flood wreaked havoc between Thursday and Sunday in some villages in the area, displacing about 400 households and destroying about 1,000 farms.

The State Management Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) had already distributed relief items to the displaced persons camped in one of the schools in the area.
