Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose
A former governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, has declared that it is the turn of the South to produce President Muhammadu Buhari’s successor in 2023.
Fayose, a presidential aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), said this via a series of tweets on his verified Twitter handle on Wednesday.
The former governor stated that although PDP recognises a rotational presidency between North and South, the next president of the country must come from the South.
He further used a Yoruba statement of the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, saying, “Awa South lo kan”, which means “it is the turn of the South”.
Fayose tweeted: “The current President of Nigeria is a 2-term Northern Presidency, thus implying that it must be a Southern Presidency in 2023 or NOTHING. Awa ‘South’ lo kan’. Nigerians should await details soon.

“The PDP Constitution provides for a rotational Presidency. Section 3(c) provides that the party shall pursue its aims & objectives by “adhering to the policy of the rotation & zoning of party & public elective offices in pursuance of the principle of equity, justice and fairness.”
Although Fayose did not endorse any presidential candidate in his tweets, Tinubu hails from the South-West, while the presidential candidate of the PDP, Atiku Abubakar, is a northerner.
The governor contested the PDP presidential primaries but lost after polling zero vote.
