Businessman and social commentator, Isaac Fayose, has gifted an Ekiti woman ₦1 million after she allegedly refused a ₦15,000 offer to sell her vote during the recent governorship election in the state.
The woman gained public attention after a video circulated online showing her explaining why she declined the money despite facing financial challenges.
In the viral clip, she said she chose to uphold her conscience rather than exchange her vote for cash, insisting that her principles could not be bought.
Reacting to the video, Fayose commended the woman for what he described as an act of integrity and announced a ₦1 million reward in recognition of her decision.
According to him, the gesture was intended to celebrate honesty and encourage Nigerians to resist electoral inducement.
Fayose said the woman’s action demonstrated that citizens can remain principled even under financial pressure and contribute to strengthening democratic values.
The development has sparked reactions on social media, with many users praising the woman for standing by her convictions and applauding Fayose for rewarding what they described as exemplary conduct.
The incident has also reignited discussions about vote-buying, a practice that election observers have repeatedly identified as a major challenge in Nigeria’s electoral process.
Observers raised concerns about alleged vote-buying during the Ekiti governorship election, prompting renewed calls for stricter enforcement of electoral laws and greater efforts to safeguard the integrity of elections.
