Fayose speaks on suspension, describes Ayu as comedian

A former governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, has described his suspension by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as “the last kick of a dead horse”.

The Star had reported that the PDP suspended Fayose for alleged anti-party activities.

Reacting via a statement issued on Thursday by his spokesperson, Lere Olayinka, the former governor said the PDP National Chairman, Sen. Iyorchia Ayu, “and his cohorts are only entertaining themselves with the purported suspension as their latest comedy skit.”

“In a matter of days, the inglorious tenure of Ayu as national chairman of PDP will become history and the party will enjoy a new lease of life,” he added.

Fayose stated that himself and others “who stood by the party when Ayu and his cohorts left it to die will rescue it and give life back in due course.”

“The purported suspension will have no leg to stand,” the former governor stressed.

Fayose had called for Ayu’s resignation, stressing that the PDP National Chairman lacks capacity to move the party forward.

Fayose is an ally of Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, who has since been leading calls for Ayu’s resignation after former Vice President Atiku Abubakar clinched the PDP’s presidential ticket in May 2022.

Wike, who led five aggrieved governors in the PDP, known as G5, insisted that it was unfair for the main opposition party to have the national chairman and presidential candidate from the northern region of the country.
