The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has expressed gratitude to residents of Bwari Area Council for their support in the February 21 FCT Area Council elections, describing the outcome as a fulfilment of commitments made to President Bola Tinubu.
Wike spoke on Tuesday during a thank-you visit to Bwari, where he commended the electorate for their turnout and backing, stressing that elected officials must always honour their promises.
He recalled earlier engagements with community stakeholders, noting that the administration carried out broad consultations before embarking on projects in the area. According to him, the election results reflect the confidence of the people in the President’s leadership.
“On behalf of the President, I thank you for keeping the promise you made to him by ensuring that all those who supported him and contested in this election emerged victorious,” Wike said, assuring residents that their support would not be taken for granted.
The minister pledged that ongoing infrastructure projects, particularly the Bwari–Kubwa road, would be completed within the year.
“The road we are constructing from Bwari to Kubwa—we will finish it. We will finish it this year,” he stated.
Wike also cautioned residents against what he described as misleading tactics by opposition politicians and urged them to remain steadfast in supporting leaders who understand their priorities.
In his remarks, the Chairman-elect of Bwari Area Council, Joshua Ishaku of the All Progressives Congress (APC), thanked the minister and the electorate for their support. He described Wike as a committed leader and pledged continued backing for the administration ahead of future elections.
He assured that Bwari residents would stand firmly with the administration in 2027 and expressed optimism about further development in the council.
The APC won five of the six chairmanship seats across the Area Councils of the Federal Capital Territory in the February 21 polls, securing victories in Abuja Municipal Area Council, Abaji, Bwari, Kwali and Kuje. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) won the chairmanship seat in Gwagwalada.
