FCTA demolishes criminal hideout in Apo

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has continued its crackdown on criminal hideouts in Abuja, demolishing an identified hotspot in Apo Resettlement on Thursday.

The operation, led by the Director of Development Control, Mukhtar Galadima, targeted a location described as a notorious “dark spot” linked to violent crimes and insecurity in Apo and surrounding areas.

“This is part of our ongoing city sanitation efforts to rid the FCT of criminal elements,” Galadima said.

“Credible security reports show that this area harbored miscreants, with cases of killings and other crimes.

“That is why we have demolished and cleared it completely.”

He added that the demolition was aimed at preventing miscreants from occupying green areas and undeveloped plots.

Director of the FCTA Security Services Department, Adamu Gwary, represented by Dr. Peter Olumuji of the Command and Control Centre, confirmed residents had long complained about criminal activities in the area, including armed robbery and drug peddling.

“Just a few weeks ago, over 50 armed robbers attempted to attack residents here, but swift action by security agencies averted a major incident,” Olumuji said.

This latest demolition follows similar operations in recent days, including the clearance of illegal structures in Wuse Zone 3 on August 6, the UTC area on Monday, and the “Cashew Garden” shanties in Apo Cadastral Zone E27 on Tuesday.
