FCTA to unveil “project breathe clean air Abuja” on Saturday

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) will on Saturday, November 15, launch the maiden edition of “Project Breathe Clean Air Abuja,” an initiative aimed at promoting clean cooking gas as a healthier alternative to firewood and charcoal.

The event, which will be held at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre, is supported by IHS Nigeria and is expected to attract environmental and health experts, students, development partners, policymakers, and other key stakeholders.

With the theme “Renewing Hope, One Household at a Time,” the programme seeks to reduce the health and environmental hazards associated with household air pollution while advancing sustainable living across the FCT.

Speaking ahead of the launch, the Mandate Secretary, Dr. Dolapo Fasawe, described the initiative as a strategic intervention aligned with the FCTA’s broader goals of improving public health and promoting environmental safety.

She acknowledged the support of the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, and commended IHS Nigeria for backing the project.

According to the FCTA, the six-month programme will include the distribution of 5,000 gas cylinders across the six area councils to encourage households to transition from traditional cooking methods to clean cooking gas.

The administration says the initiative will contribute significantly to reducing respiratory-related illnesses, curb deforestation, and strengthen climate-resilient practices in the nation’s capital.
