The Nigerian government has begun evacuating some stranded Nigerians from Iran to neighbouring Armenia, according to the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM).
NiDCOM disclosed that officials of the Nigerian Embassy in Iran facilitated the movement of willing Nigerians across the Armenian border to ensure their safety amid the ongoing conflict involving Iran, the United States and Israel.
Although the commission could not confirm the exact number of evacuees, it noted that no Nigerian has been reported harmed by the conflict.
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NiDCOM, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, said government officials were stationed at the border to assist Nigerians seeking to leave the troubled country.
“So far, no Nigerian in Iran has been affected by the war, as government officials remain at the border to receive all who want to leave,” she said.
According to NiDCOM, the evacuation was carried out by officials of the Nigerian Embassy in Iran to provide safe passage for citizens who expressed interest in relocating following waves of attacks on Iran by Israel and the United States.
Meanwhile, Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, has reiterated the country’s commitment to constructive multilateral engagement within the Commonwealth of Nations.

The meeting brought together ministers from across the Commonwealth to review global challenges and strengthen coordination ahead of the upcoming Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM).
Discussions at the meeting highlighted the need for collective action in promoting peace, economic resilience, and democratic governance among member states.
Tuggar reaffirmed that Nigeria remains committed to multilateral cooperation aimed at advancing shared progress across the Commonwealth.
