FG meets NLC, TUC leaders over strike

The meeting between the Federal Government and the leaders of the Nigeria Labour Union (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) has started at the Presidential Villa in Abuja with the aim of averting the strike planned by the unions.

A scheduled meeting at the Presidential Villa on Friday, September 29, 2023, was cancelled after the leaders of the unions failed to show up.

The NLC and the TUC had, on Tuesday, declared their readiness to begin an indefinite strike on October 3 over hardship in the country following the removal of petrol subsidy.

The meeting has in attendance from the government side the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila; the Minister of Labour and Employment, Simon Lalong; and the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkiruka Onyejeocha.

Others are the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris; and Ministers Atiku Bagudu (Budget and National Planning), Wale Edun (Finance), and Doris Uzoka-Anite (Trade, Investment and Industry).
