FG orders immediate shutdown of 41 unity schools

The Federal Government has ordered the immediate closure of 41 Federal Government Colleges (unity schools) across the northern region due to escalating security threats.

The directive was issued in a circular signed by Binta Abdulkadir, Director of Senior Secondary Education, on behalf of the Minister of Education, Maruf Alausa.

The memo, addressed to principals of the affected schools, said the decision was taken to forestall further attacks and ensure the safety of students and staff.

“Sequel to the recent security challenges in some parts of the country and the need to prevent any security breaches, the Honourable Minister of Education has approved the immediate closure of the listed Federal Unity Colleges,” the circular stated, directing all principals to ensure full compliance.

The action follows a series of attacks by bandits on schools in recent days, leading to the abduction of students and staff in parts of the North.

FGGC Minjibir, FTC Ganduje, FGGC Zaria, FTC Kafanchan, FGGC Bakori, FTC Dayi, FGC Daura, FGGC Gwandu, FGGC Tambuwal, FSC Sokoto, FTC Wurno, FGC Gusau, FGC Anka, FGC Kiyawa, FGC Birnin Yauri, FTC Zuru, FGGC Kazaure, FTC Hadejia, FGGC Bida, FGC New-Bussa, FTC Kuta-Shiroro, FGA Suleja, FGC Ilorin, FGGC Omu-Aran, FTC Gwanara, FGC Ugwolawo, FGGC Kabba, FTC Ogugu, FGGC Bwari, FGC Rubochi, FGGC Abaji, FGGC Potiskum, FGC Buni Yadi, FTC Gashua, FTC Michika, FGC Ganye, FGC Azare, FTC Misau, FGGC Bajoga, FGC Billiri, and FTC Zambuk.

The Ministry assured that further directives will be communicated as security agencies work to restore safety in affected areas.
