FG speaks on $100,000, other unpaid rewards for Super Falcons

The Federal Government has spoken about the payment of $100,000 reward and other commitments promised by President Bola Tinubu after the Super Falcons won the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.

Super Falcons captain Rasheedat Ajibade had, in a recent interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, said Tinubu has yet to fulfil his promises to the team.

“We have not received our money, but hopefully, it would be paid. They have not paid all the promises; we have not received anything,” Ajibade said.

Speaking on the development, the National Sports Commission (NSC) Director-General, Bukola Olopade, said efforts were underway to ensure the Super Falcons get their rewards as promised.

Olopade, in an interview with Arise TV on Friday, August 15, 2025, said the NSC is working with the Minister of Works and Housing to ensure the team receives their houses as promised.

Super Falcons yet to receive FG’s promised $100,000 – Ajibade    

He stated: “The NSC is in contact with the Minister of Works and Housing and with the Renewed Hope Housing Initiative to ensure that they receive their houses in record time.

“On the promise of Mr. President, I can assure you that it will be paid.”

The NSC boss added that all outstanding payments were settled before the Super Falcons’ final match against Morocco.

“I can confirm authoritatively that all their bonuses have been paid, I spoke with Ajibade yesterday and with the NFF and everybody is on the same page,” Olopade added.

Tinubu had conferred the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) on all 24 players and 11 technical crew members of the Super Falcons following their historic victory at WAFCON.

During a grand reception at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on July 28, 2025, the president also announced a reward of naira equivalent of $100,000 each to the players and $50,000 each to the coaches and support staff, as well as a three-bedroom flat.
