Federal Government has warned that it would terminate the contract for constructing the Ikorodu-Itokin Road in Lagos State if the contractor would not listen to instructions.
The Minister of Works, David Umahi, gave the warning during an inspection tour of the project on Sunday, January 11, 2026.
GELD Construction Limited is the contractor handling the project.
Umahi, who expressed dissatisfaction at the pace of the work, said: “I am very disappointed because they are more interested in what is the impossibility of doing this job than cooperating with us to do what is possible at this point.
“How many years do they want to stay here? The game is over. The supervising engineer will risk his job if this job is not started.
“His job is to report to us that the contractor has disobeyed. Then, I will have the contractor arrested.”

The minister directed night escavation on the road to ensure seamless traffic.
Umahi added: “The road is eight metres wide. What we have directed is to concentrate on making sure that the first section, we excavate it at night, fill it back with lumps and stone base mixed with cement.
“It will look like concrete so that we have a seamless traffic flow. We now start completing the project section by section.
“In the first section, we could take five kilometers of the road, mill it and then use it to build the shoulders.
“We do everything working at the eight metres at night by milling it and then putting 60 millimetres of binder and 40 millimetres of bearing.”
