FG, U.S. embassy partner to educate Nigerians on new visa rules

The Federal Government is partnering with the United States Embassy to sensitise Nigerians on new U.S. visa regulations to ensure applicants understand and comply with the updated requirements.

Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, disclosed this during a joint press conference with the U.S. Ambassador to Nigeria, Richard M. Mills Jr., in Abuja on Friday.

Idris noted that the United States remains one of the most visited destinations for Nigerians for education, business, tourism, medical care, and other purposes, stressing that the new visa application procedures are aimed at improving efficiency and service delivery.

“These changes, as explained by the U.S. Mission, are part of efforts to enhance service delivery, improve efficiency, and respond to evolving consular demands,” he said, commending the U.S. government for engaging directly with Nigerian citizens to provide accurate and timely information.

Ambassador Mills emphasised that compliance with U.S. visa laws is vital to sustaining mutual trust and strengthening bilateral relations.

“Misuse of a visa or providing inaccurate information undermines the trust between our two countries,” he warned, urging applicants to provide truthful information and adhere to visa terms.

The envoy praised the Nigerian government and relevant agencies for their cooperation in public awareness campaigns and encouraged Nigerians to access information directly from the U.S. Embassy’s official channels.
