The Federal Government has approached the Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos State, to withdraw the charge of illegal possession of firearms filed against the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele.
The government, on Tuesday, August 15, 2023, approached the court with an oral application to withdraw the charge.
The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) at the Federal Ministry of Justice, Mohammed Abubakar, in the oral application, told the presiding judge, Justice Nicholas Oweibo, that the application followed the result of further investigations.

Joseph Daudu (SAN), the counsel for Emefiele, however, opposed the application, stressing that the government must first purge itself of the disobedience of the court’s order granting the suspended CBN boss bail before its application could be taken.
Justice Oweibo, therefore, adjourned till Thursday, August 17, 2023, to rule on the application.
It would be recalled that Emefiele was arraigned on July 25, 2023, on a two-count charge bordering on illegal possession of firearms at the Federal High Court in Ikoyi.
