Fintiri remains loyal to PDP, says spokesman amid defection rumors

The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Adamawa State, Mr. Humwashi Wonosikou has refuted reports suggesting that Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri is planning to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
During a media parley held over the weekend in Yola, Wonosikou emphasized that the governor is firmly committed to the PDP and is currently focused on his role as chairman of the party’s National Convention Committee.
“His Excellency, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, remains a bona fide member of the PDP. He is not leaving,” Wonosikou stated.
The clarification comes amid a wave of high-profile defections from the PDP to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Most recently, Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, along with former governor and 2023 vice-presidential candidate Ifeanyi Okowa, decamped to the APC, taking with them the entire PDP structure in Delta State.
Welcoming the new members, APC National Chairman Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje noted that more defections from the PDP are expected in the coming months.
The media briefing also provided an opportunity to highlight Governor Fintiri’s achievements during the first quarter of 2025, showcasing progress made under his administration.
