Fire engulfs petrol station in Abuja

A fire outbreak on Thursday night engulfed the AYM Shafa Petrol Station in Area 3, Abuja, prompting firefighters to launch an operation to prevent the flames from spreading to nearby buildings.

The Federal Fire Service (FFS) deployed personnel to the scene to contain the fire and protect residents, motorists and businesses within the area.

In a statement issued late Thursday, the FFS National Public Relations Officer and Head of Corporate Services, DCF Paul Abraham, expressed sympathy to those affected by the incident.

The agency urged residents and motorists to remain calm and avoid the scene, warning that crowds could obstruct emergency responders and hamper firefighting operations.

It also advised motorists to avoid the Area 3 corridor and use alternative routes to ease congestion and provide emergency vehicles with unhindered access to the affected area.

The FFS appealed to road users to cooperate with traffic management officials and other emergency agencies deployed to the scene.

The agency said further verified information would be made available as response operations and investigations into the incident continue.
