Former adult film actress sworn in as Colombian senator

Former adult film actress Deyci Alejandra Omaña Ortiz has been sworn in as a senator in Colombia after winning a seat in the country’s March parliamentary elections.

Popularly known by her stage name, Amaranta Hank, Omaña will represent the Norte de Santander region as a member of the left-wing Historic Pact coalition for the 2026–2030 legislative term.

According to Colombian media, she secured the seat after placing 23rd on the coalition’s closed Senate list. The Historic Pact emerged as the largest political force in the election, winning more than 4.4 million votes, representing 22.72 per cent of the total Senate vote and securing 25 seats.

Before entering politics, Omaña worked as a journalist before transitioning into the adult entertainment industry. She has maintained that her previous career should not define her ability to serve in public office.

The senator has advocated greater legal protection and recognition for workers in the adult entertainment industry, arguing that women involved in the sector contribute to the country’s economy and should not face discrimination.

Responding to criticism over her election, Omaña questioned why a woman who had worked in the adult film industry should be barred from seeking elective office.

Beyond advocating for the rights of adult entertainment workers, she said her legislative priorities include mental health, sexual abuse prevention and other social welfare issues.

Her election follows months of public debate after she and former adult film performer Juan Carlos Florián were appointed to positions in Colombia’s Ministry of Equality under President Gustavo Petro’s administration, appointments that generated widespread political discussion.
