Fubara orders audit of Rivers LG accounts

Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has directed the state Auditor General to audit the accounts of the 23 Local Government Areas for the past three years.

Fubara gave the directive after the swearing of caretaker committee chairmen for the 23 LGAs of Rivers State at the Government House in Port Harcourt, the state capital, on Wednesday, June 19, 2024.

The governor said the audit of the accounts would serve as a check for the new officials.

He, however, urged the caretaker chairmen not to see themselves as superheroes, but to protect the interests of the people of Rivers State and demonstrate that the government made the right choice in appointing them.

Governor Fubara added that the fight against tenure extension was not about the state, but the entire country, as allowing it in one state could lead to it being replicated nationwide.

Fubara stressed that Rivers State was not doing anything unusual, saying most states in the country are also run by caretaker committees.

He, therefore, warned the new officials that their tenure would not be excessively long, noting that the process for local government area elections would commence soon.

The new caretaker committee chairmen include Madigai Dickson (Abua/Odual LGA), Happy Benneth (Ahoada East LGA), Daddy Green (Ahoada West LGA), Otonye Briggs (Akuku Toru LGA), Reginald Ekaan (Andoni LGA), Orolosoma Amachree (Asari Toru LGA), and Alabota Anengi Barasua (Bonny LGA).
