FULL LIST: 72 lawyers shortlisted for SAN rank, LPPC opens public review process

The Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (LPPC) has announced the shortlist of 72 legal practitioners under consideration for elevation to the prestigious rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).

According to an official notice signed by the Committee’s Secretary, Mr. Kabir Akanbi, 57 of the candidates were drawn from the advocate category, while the remaining 15 fall under the academic category.

The LPPC has called on the public to provide comments on the integrity, reputation, and professional competence of the shortlisted applicants.

It stressed that any complaint must be accompanied by a verifying affidavit sworn before a superior court of record in Nigeria or a Notary Public and must be submitted in 20 copies.

All submissions are to be received at the office of the LPPC Secretary no later than 4:00 p.m. on Monday, July 14, 2025. Alternatively, they may be sent via email to: Ippesecretariat@courts.gov.ng or Enquiries.ippesecretariat@supremecourt.gov.ng.

The Committee emphasized that being shortlisted does not guarantee conferment of the SAN rank.

In the academic category, the shortlisted professors include John Alewo Agbonika, Osy Ezechukwunyere Nwebo, Nlerum Sunday Okogbule, Najeem Adeyemi Ijaiya, Nnamdi Onyeka Obiaraeri, Akkaarren Samuel Shaakaa, Nathaniel Ahagbue Inegbedion, Collins Obioma Chijioke, Violet Aigbokhaevbo, Meshak Nnama Umenweke, Augustine Robert Agom, Osaretin George Izevbuwa, Chimajosephat Ubanyionwu, Ibrahim Abdulqadir Abikan, and Ominiye Bukola Akinola.

The SAN title is one of the most coveted honors in the Nigerian legal profession, reserved for distinguished practitioners and academics who have demonstrated excellence, integrity, and leadership in the field of law.
