Funke Akindele’s ‘Behind The Scenes’ breaks N1.1bn box office record

A movie produced by actress Funke Akindele, ‘Behind The Scenes’, has set a new Nigerian box office benchmark, grossing N1.1 billion to become Nollywood’s biggest theatrical release of the year.

The movie distributed by FilmOne Entertainment became West Africa’s fastest title to cross N1 billion in 19 days.

Akindele also became the first filmmaker and director to deliver three consecutive films grossing N1 billion in a single calendar year.

In a post on Instagram, FilmOne thanked audiences across West Africa for their support, describing the performance as a historic milestone for the industry.

Funke Akindele marks 27 years in Nollywood

“Thank you West Africa. Another history has been made,” the distributor said on Monday, December 29, 2025, adding that the film earned N1,109,463,846, including a record N129.5 million Boxing Day gross.

‘Behind The Scenes’ explores the realities behind fame, examining success, generosity, public expectations and the emotional costs beneath glamorous appearances.

With its record-breaking run and status as 2025’s highest-grossing release, the movie is expected to sustain momentum in cinemas nationwide.
