Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, says the state government has compensated families affected by the last week’s gas explosion that killed nine people and injured others in the state.

Ganduje said the state government has given N9 million as compensation to the family of the victims, while N2million was given to 10 persons who were seriously injured, adding that N1million was given to those with minor injuries.

The governor also said a business centre, African Centre, affected by the explosion was given N2 million, while Winners Academy, which its students suffered injuries from the explosion and its glasses shattered, got N1million.

This is just as President Muhammadu Buhari, on Monday, met with the families of the victims to commiserate with them over the tragic incident.

The President had landed in Kano to attend part of events organised to commemorate the Nigerian Air Force Week.

Buhari also visited the Palace of Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, to condole with him and the people of the state over the explosion, which the police identified gas cylinder/chemicals as the cause of the explosion.

On his part, the Emir of Kano commended Buhari for his gesture, saying the people of Kano State were grateful for the President’s visit because he has always identified with the masses.

Bayero, however, prayed that credible leaders will emerge for Nigeria during the forthcoming general election.

The Star reports that an explosion had last week rocked the Sabon Gari area of Kano State, leading to the death of nine persons while many were injured.

The police, a few days later, said it recovered a vehicle loaded with Improvised Explosives Device (IED) materials, guns, and ammunition.
