Glo dazzles at Ofala festival with prizes, cultural splendour in Onitsha

Globacom, Nigeria’s leading digital services provider, once again demonstrated its commitment to cultural preservation and community empowerment with a colourful participation in this year’s Ofala Festival in Onitsha.

The 2025 edition, held at the Ime Obi, featured the traditional Iru Ofala on Friday and the Azu Ofala on Saturday—two major events that define the rich heritage of the Onitsha kingdom.

The Iru Ofala marked the Obi of Onitsha’s first public appearance after a period of spiritual retreat and communion with the ancestors, during which he sought divine blessings for the land. His regal dance around the Ime Obi symbolized renewal, peace, and prosperity for his people.

In keeping with tradition, the Obi later received homage from chiefs, titled men, citizens, and dignitaries, including the Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa; Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Benjamin Kalu; former Deputy Speaker, Emeka Ihedioha; former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi; and Director General of the National Council for Arts and Culture, Obi Asika, among others.

Expressing gratitude to Globacom for its continued support, the royal father said:

> “We thank them for believing in us, and I trust that the mutual benefit we all derive from this partnership will continue to flourish.”

The Azu Ofala, which served as the grand finale, was a day of joy, thanksgiving, and festivity. The Obi, in high spirits, received goodwill messages from guests and the festival’s official sponsor, Globacom.

Adding extra excitement to the celebrations, Glo rewarded winners of the Ofala promo, a special campaign designed for the Onitsha community. Among the lucky participants was Chidinma Esther Obi, a businesswoman from the 33 area of Onitsha, who won the star prize — a brand-new Kia Picanto. She received the keys from Chief Albert Ibekwe (Odu Osodi of Onitsha) and Glo’s representative, Tochukwu Okechukwu.

Winners of the tricycles, Ibeziakor Onyebuchi Anthony and Ejike Chiememma Gloria, were also elated, while several others went home with power generating sets and grinding machines.

Having supported the Ofala Festival for 14 consecutive years, Globacom reaffirmed its role as a steadfast promoter of Nigeria’s cultural heritage and a brand that remains deeply rooted in the communities it serves.
