Gombe Assembly promotes 28 staff, retires six

The Gombe State House of Assembly Service Commission has approved the promotion of 28 staff members and confirmed the retirement of six officers who have completed the mandatory 35 years of service.

The decisions were reached during the commission’s maiden plenary meeting held on Wednesday under the chairmanship of Sadiq Ibrahim.

According to a statement issued by the commission, the promotions followed recommendations by the Senior and Junior Establishment Committees of both the Gombe State House of Assembly and the Assembly Service Commission.

Speaking at the meeting, Ibrahim reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to improving staff welfare and ensuring timely career progression in line with its statutory mandate.

He said the commission would prioritise the welfare of workers while also expecting discipline, dedication and professionalism from members of staff.

“We are committed to discharging the responsibility entrusted to us by Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, particularly in handling staff welfare in line with the provisions of the law establishing the commission,” he said.

Meanwhile, the leadership of the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN), representing the House of Assembly and the Assembly Service Commission chapters, paid a courtesy visit to the commission.

The union congratulated the chairman and other members on their appointments and pledged its support for the commission’s activities.

PASAN, however, urged the commission to prioritise timely staff promotions, improve workers’ welfare and expand opportunities for training, retraining and professional development.

The association also appealed for the payment of wardrobe allowances to Assembly staff.

Responding, Ibrahim thanked the union for its support and assured members that the commission would give careful consideration to the issues raised.

He pledged closer collaboration with PASAN to strengthen the Assembly Service Commission but cautioned staff against acts of indiscipline, urging them to remain committed to their duties.
