Kebbi State Governor, Dr Nasir Idris, has awarded a contract worth N9.4 billion for the rehabilitation of some roads in Birnin Kebbi, the state capital.
Signing the official contract agreement in Government House, Birnin Kebbi on Tuesday, July 25, 2023, Idris said the rehabilitation and upgrading of the metropolitan roads would reduce erosion challenges.
The governor urged the company to abide by the contractual agreements and execute the work according to the specifications, assuring that the state government would monitor and ensure full-fledged compliance of the work.
He added: “In the next two weeks, we will sign another Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the completion of our Secretariat Complex in Gwadangwaji area in Birnin Kebbi.
“Similar road projects will be extended to other two senatorial districts as the government will do everything humanly possible to do justice to all the people in the state.”

Governor Idris stated that the Kebbi State Government would also renovate hospitals and schools by August, saying: “Where the schools need construction, we will construct and where they need renovation, we will renovate.
“We cannot afford to fail education and health as well as agriculture as we will help our farmers to ensure food security in the state.”
On welfare of workers, Idris said his administration would sustain timely payment of pension and gratuity to civil servants as well as prompt payment of salaries to all categories of workers in the state.
On his part, the Permanent Secretary of the Kebbi State Ministry of Works and Transport, Sa’adu Musa-Sakaba, said the projects were one of the dream projects of the governor in giving the state capital a befitting outlook it deserved.
He said: “The scope of the projects comprised, asphalts, overlaying of the dual carriageway from NNPC Mega station to Rima roundabout; from NDLEA roundabout up to Haliru Audu roundabout and from Haliru Audu roundabout up to AP 2 roundabout.
“Provision of solar street lights along the five major roads to be affected by the rehabilitation and drainages along Gwadangwaji and Oasis areas, among others.”
According to him, the duration for the completion of the projects is 18 months.
Also speaking, the General Manager of the company, Ammar Nouri, gave assurance of adherence to the contract specifications and completion of the project within the stipulated time.
