A non-political pressure group, Christian Conscience, has commended the ongoing military efforts on terrorism in some parts of the country, saying the present efforts of the military have been more impactful.

The group said the strategic efforts of the military have yielded better results than past efforts where the terrorists have made life unbearable for Nigerians.

This was contained in a statement jointly signed by the National Chairman of the Christian Conscience, Dr Yetunde Akinluyi, and the National General Secretary, Rev. Kolawole Verrals, a copy of which was made available to The Star on Monday.

The group said: “The lingering efforts of these terrorists have contributed to shortage of foods, high cost of living in the country and hindering movements of people, goods, and services. When farmers and all partakers in food chain are or can be harmed, how will food be available to all?

“Now that the military high command has responded positively to the body language of the President, we believe better days are ahead because there have been too much shedding of innocent blood in the country.”

On the issue of the lingering strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), the Christian Conscience commended President Muhammadu Buhari for his intervention.

The group, however, admonished all concerned to be fair, just, and committed to bringing an end to the “plights of our children who have been idle and can be vulnerable having stayed at home for about 7 months.”

It added: “The intervention of the President should be towards a logical and result-oriented conclusion.

“This is a call to our political, traditional, and opinion leaders to do more and put pressure on both the government and the union to end the staying at home of the students.

“We pray and urge President Buhari to ensure there is an end to the strike as soon as possible so that our children can go back to school and also redeem the image of the educational sector.

The Christian Conscience further called on political parties to ensure their campaigns are issue-based while campaigning ahead of the 2023 general election.
